Having a nice barbecue in your backyard is surely a really nice way to spend an afternoon. Having some steaks or burgers with your family and friends can be a very relaxing and enjoyable time for any homeowner. Don’t forget to stock up on some barbecue sauce though as this would definitely be nice to have to make your burgers, hotdogs, and other grilled foods taste a lot better.
While you are having a good time with your buddies and eating your burgers and steaks, there may be instances when you will be caught off guard which could result in you accidentally dropping the plate full of food you are holding all over your carpet. This can be a really big problem since the barbecue sauce can get onto the carpet fibers and cause an ugly stain.
Cleaning up this mess can be daunting but thankfully it is very doable as long as you know the right steps to take. Here’s what you’ll need to do to remove that barbecue sauce stain on your carpet easily.
1. Immediately get a paper towel and slowly blot the spilled barbecue sauce on the carpet. This is very important so that you can remove the excess sauce while also preventing it from spreading to other areas of the carpet.
2. After you have cleared the carpet of as much barbecue sauce as you can, the next thing you need to do is to make a cleaning solution that will work on the stain. You can do this by combining a teaspoon of clear ammonia with a cup of warm water. This is going to give you a very potent cleaning agent that will eliminate the stain.
3. Apply some of the ammonia-based cleaning solution that you have created on the stained portion of the carpet. Then, let a few moments pass to allow the solution to work on the stain.
4. Use a clean white cloth or a paper towel and gradually blot the stain on your carpet. Make your way from the outside of the stain moving inward to get the best results possible and also to prevent the stain from spreading. Do this repeatedly until all of the stain is gone.
5. Flush any residue which could get left behind on the carpet by pouring a glass of water on the area you just finished cleaning. Then, dry everything using a wet/dry vac to complete your task.
